Heidi Higginbotham is currently the Aviation Operations Program Manager for the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development’s Aviation Division. She and her staff manage and oversee the Aviation Grant Program, State Aviation Program Update, Pavement Condition Index studies, Aviation Compliance Program, and Education, Training and Outreach Programs, Wildlife Hazard Mitigation Program, and Program Management System Developments.
Heidi Higginbotham holds a Bachelor of Science in Aviation Management from the University of Louisiana Monroe and a Master of Science in Project Management from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. She is a fixed-wing commercial pilot with an instrument rating and FAA Part 107 remote pilot certificate. Heidi is an active member of Toastmasters International, Women in Aviation International, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, and the American Association of Airport Executives.
Heidi graduated with her Master’s Degree in November 2019 and has plans for continuing her educational growth by obtaining her Certified Flight Instructor Certificates. She lives by her philosophy, “That every flight in life is different and a good pilot is continuously learning.” Heidi strives to perform at her best aptitude while maintaining a professional image and is committed to quality and efficiency in her work. She is an exceptional correspondent with diversity and cultural comprehension backed by a Hispanic background and having studied French and Spanish aboard. Heidi’s passion for aviation began at the age of 5 when she set her mind on becoming a pilot and ensured that dream came true when she obtained her private pilot’s license in 2012. Heidi interned for the Aviation Career Education Camps throughout Louisiana in 2012-2013 and continued to inspire upcoming aviators by helping boy scouts in the Monroe area obtain their aviation badges with lessons and discovery flights. She interned for 3 years as the Marketing and Events Coordinator with the Monroe based non-profit, Pilots for Patients. Heidi has given back to the community as a volunteer pilot for the organization while donating her time and pilot skills to fund and fly patients to their medical treatments at no cost to them. She continues to volunteer for several events and has conducted over 20 missions with Pilots for Patients.
