The Louisiana Airport Managers and Associates are proud to announce the 2020 PRESIDENT’S AWARD goes to MARY JO BAYLES.
Service is the foundation on which Mary Jo Bayles has built her life: service to her faith and family, to her community, and to the aviation industry.
For over a decade, Mary Jo has served her community as the City Planner and Airport Manager in DeQuincy, Louisiana. She has spearheaded many projects and programs during her tenure, including numerous grants for city infrastructure and parks improvements. She has also managed community events such as Relay For Life, the Hallelujah Festival, the Community Christmas Parade, and the Louisiana Railroad Days Festival.
At DeQuincy Industrial Airpark, Mary Jo has managed capital improvement projects worth over $2 Million, and most recently secured an additional $2 Million in capital outlay funding for 20 brand new T-hangars and a taxiway. Under her leadership, the airport has become a vital economic development engine for the city of DeQuincy and the Southwest Louisiana Community. The airport has become a favorite stop for weary pilots looking for affordable fuel, a good meal, and true southern hospitality. It has also become an integral part of the region’s emergency operations and disaster recovery program, serving as a GOHSEP staging area on multiple occasions.
Expanding her service to the aviation industry, Mary Jo has helped plan and coordinate the LAMA conference for the past several years. Mary Jo has served as the director of the Chennault International Airshow for the past five years. Under her leadership, the show has twice-hosted the United States Air Force Thunderbirds and is set to host United States Navy Blue Angels in 2021 on the 76th Anniversary of D-Day. The airshow, which is a treasured event in Southwest Louisiana, provides critical funding to STEM education through grants and scholarships.
Mary Jo has been a member of the United Methodist Church all her life, with over four decades of humanitarian mission service to places like Honduras, Mexico, and Appalachia. She has also served many years in leadership in both children’s and youth ministries. When she is not serving her community she loves to travel, shop, and play tennis, where she’s also served in very leadership capacities with the Calcasieu Tennis Association and chairing multiple USTA state and regional tournaments.
The people who love her most call her “Momma” or “Mimi Jo.” She is the beloved mother of Mallory and Madison, the best Mimi in the world to Ethan, Cooper, and Gryffin the Goldendoodle, and the cherished wife of Dr. Peter T. Bayles.
